Players Control Their Learning Experience
Player-Driven
Having control over how to progress through a curriculum makes players more engaged and invested in their learning. Players navigate freely through topics to focus on the areas of prime interest to them. Educational materials are available before, during or, after the role-play to build a foundation for skill building and gain new insights after putting skills in practice. Players customize their training experience to get the information they need, when they need it, and in the way they need it.
Focused Content
Small, concise blocks of information make learning easy and convenient. Our targeted educational content gets players up to speed quickly without compromising depth or coverage. Whether scanning section overviews or drilling for details, players learn how course content relates to real-life successes.
Interactive Multimedia Format
Varying the presentation of material supports players from a range of learning styles. Educational material is augmented with audio/video examples and graphics, making content richer and more engaging.

Authentic Conversations Give Real-Life Experience Without Real-Life Consequences
Learning by Doing
Skills are built when we put knowledge into practice. Role-playing with our virtual characters lets players practice difficult conversations without the high stakes of real life. Players can make mistakes without fear of judgment or failure, exploring alternatives as they progress towards mastery. Players can talk directly to characters using speech recognition, increasing skill development and confidence.
Expert Script
The more a role-play conversation feels like real life, the higher its value for training. Expert panels are assembled to support the development of scripts from start to finish. The experts’ regular input ensures that scripts align with teaching points and match up with real-life scenarios. Players draw on this experience base with every role-play, confident that their training is grounded in the realities of the field.
Practice
Building skills requires repeated practice. Lifting a weight one time does not build muscle, and one role-play does not build the necessary skills for success in important conversations. The PeopleSim engine makes repeated practice meaningful, since no conversation ever plays the same way twice. Adjustable difficulty capabilities can increase the challenge for even tougher training.
Feedback
Detailed Feedback from Multiple Channels Supports Increased Learning
Character
In a real conversation, the other person’s behavior provides a wealth of feedback. We recreate this dynamic by using video of professional actors to bring our virtual characters to life. Actors embed the most subtle nuances of tone, expression, and nonverbal communication into the characters’ responses, creating a rich role-playing experience. These interactions prepare players for what they will face in real conversations.
Coach
A coach’s input during practice can help players adjust their own performance in real time. An on-screen coach, SIMmantha, offers non-verbal cues to cheer on successes and flag mistakes. She also provides on-demand insights into every statement and character response, supporting players with hints and suggestions for improvement. Her feedback is directly connected to each system’s educational content, providing players with a cohesive learning experience.
After-Action Review
A timely debriefing is an effective way to check in with learners and supply feedback on many aspects of a skill. Our granular after-action review provides players with quantitative scoring and detailed qualitative feedback on the specifics of their performance. The system tracks fine details of performance during the conversation and reports it back in a highly customized way to help players know where to focus next.
Transcript
Reviewing what’s been said in a conversation is critical to ensure every teachable moment is captured. At any time during or after the conversation, players can view a transcript of each exchange to examine the discussion. Color-coding highlights positive and negative statements at a glance, making areas for improvement easy to spot. Players using voice recognition can replay any exchange to self-assess their tone of voice. Observing how each detail fits into the big picture helps players refine their approach in future conversations.
